£140m Investment to Create 5,000 Additional Construction Apprenticeships Annually
In a significant boost to Britain’s construction industry, £140 million of industry investment will fund an additional 5,000 apprenticeship places per year, supporting efforts to “Get Britain Building” again.
A total of 32 pioneering Homebuilding Skills Hubs will be established across the UK to deliver fast-track training in areas most in need of housing. These purpose-built hubs will provide apprentices with practical, hands-on experience in key construction trades, including bricklaying, roofing, plastering, scaffolding, electrical work, carpentry, and more.
The initiative, launched in collaboration with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and the National House-Building Council (NHBC), aims to address skills shortages and support the government’s broader economic growth agenda. Working in partnership with Skills England, the hubs will strategically target regions where the demand for skilled construction workers is highest, ensuring businesses and employers have access to well-trained talent.
The fast-track apprenticeships offered through the hubs can be completed in just 12–18 months—significantly shorter than the traditional 24–30 months. This accelerated approach will enable the industry to train workers more efficiently, filling critical roles faster and driving economic recovery.
By equipping apprentices with vital skills and creating opportunities in high-demand trades, the initiative aims to unlock job creation, accelerate housing development, and help secure long-term economic growth for communities across England.
