Why Study Biology? 

By studying biology, you can learn how to make more informed decision about your own health and about significant biological issues such as genetically modified crops, the use of antibiotics and the eradication of invasive species to name a few.  

What Will I Learn? 

Each course varies depending on the course provider and what it is that the course focuses on. However, there are a number of topics that you can expect to learn about in any biology course. Therefore, you can expect to be provided an introduction to biology, biochemistry and the biological basis of disease. You will also explore cells, biomolecules, genetics and evolution, physiology and structure of plants and animals. In addition, you will learn the fundamentals of modern chemistry and calculus for science, microbiology in society and physics for biological and chemical sciences.  

In addition, you may also explore applied plant biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry and chemistry of pharmaceutical compounds. Also, you may explore chemistry with forensic sciences, science education, microbiology, neuroscience and physiology. Some courses may cover more than you read here. Career Opportunities 

Upon completion of your biology course, you can work in a variety of areas. To name a few, food, fermentation and pharmaceutical industries. Studying biology is a strong foundation for careers in areas such as administration, sales, accountancy, management, banking, publishing, research, science writing and education. 

Career Progression 

If you found you really enjoyed your biology course, you should consider doing other courses related to biology. You could do so in psychics, chemistry, food science and much more. This will help you secure more jobs and open up your career opportunities. Depending on what level your biology course is, you could consider doing a Level 8 degree in biology. If you already have done a Level 8 degree in biology, you could also consider doing a Master’s degree or a PHD in biology.
