What is Early Childhood Education?

Early Childhood refers to the time from a child’s birth to when they are 8 years old. It is a time of rapid and remarkable growth and brain development and during this stage; children are highly influenced by their environment and the people that surround them.

Early Childhood Education is more than just a preparation for primary school; it is a complete development of the social, mental, cognitive and physical needs of a child to create a sound base for a lifetime of learning and well-being. Early Childhood educators and teachers specialize in the development of important skills that will form the foundation of personality, social behaviour, and the ability to learn. These are skills that children will need as they mature and grow, and that they will use and continue to develop throughout their lives.

Early Childhood Education teachers today are encouraged to adapt and adopt new practices that acknowledge both the art and science of learning. It is important to understand that the essence of education is a close relationship between a knowledgeable, caring adult and a secure, motivated child. They know that their most important role is to get to know each student as an individual to understand his or her individual preferences, learning style, social and cultural background, interests and abilities.

What Will I Learn?

With the right education, future teachers can gain valuable knowledge and experience that will drive their success in the classroom. Early Childhood Education courses ensure educators understand basic learning objectives and developmental milestones for young children.

You will learn how to share and teach knowledge interestingly and understandably. A teacher needs to be an effective communicator and motivator and you will learn skills and systems for effective communication and classroom management.

Early Childhood Education courses also provide teachers with skills to support school readiness and future academic achievement. You’re going to learn how to educate, how to inspire, and how to influence change in your students, and help them achieve greatness and be the best versions of themselves they can be.
