The Leaving Cert Maths Exam 

The leaving certificate maths examination paper one has two sections, one is based on concepts and skills, equalling a total of 150 marks across 6 questions and the other is on contexts and applications, equalling a total of 150 marks across 3 questions. You have to answer all nine questions. The second paper consists of the same topics but are marked differently. The first section in the first section equals 150 marks across 6 questions and the second section is 150 marks across 2 questions.  

You have to answer all eight questions, however, you are given a choice in the first section between answering 6(a) and 6(b). Unlike other exams, there is no consistency in what questions will appear for any particular topics. Other questions will test you on a number of different topics from the course. There is also no consistency in the allocation of marks across the different parts of the questions. You can take the examination at higher, ordinary or foundation level. The foundation level examination has two sections, the first of which equals 200 marks across 9 questions and the second which equals 100 marks across 3 questions. You have to answer all eleven questions.
