Scaffolding Courses: Learn to Become a Scaffolder

Considering a Scaffolding Course?

If you want to become a scaffolder, the best thing you can do is a scaffolding course. A scaffolding course will teach you all you need to know about scaffolding. It will provide you with the opportunity to become competent in applying the skills, attitudes and knowledge associated with the safe erection and dismantling of scaffolding systems. The good news is there are lots of scaffolding courses currently available for a variety of levels. Not to mention, they offer great flexibility too for those leading busy lives. Scaffolding courses are available in full-time, part-time and evening class options.

What is Scaffolding?

Scaffolding in relation to construction, involves using a temporary platform to elevate and support workers and materials during the repair, cleaning or construction of a machine or structure. It generally consists of one or more planks of convenient length and size, with numerous methods of support, depending on the form and use.

What Skills Should a Scaffolder Have?

There are a number of skills scaffolders should have. For one thing, they must have the ability to work confidently at heights and have excellent hand-eye coordination. They also should have a good level of physical fitness and awareness of health and safety. Ideally, they also must understand technical drawings and plans. It is also important that scaffolders have good written and verbal communication skills.

What Does a Scaffolder Do?

Scaffolders are essential to the construction industry, as so many construction crews need access via rigs, guard rails, scaffolds and planks to carry out restoration or construction work. Scaffolders unload scaffolding equipment on-site, ensure a stable base for scaffolding and erect scaffolding poles. They also fix scaffolding to buildings or structures, lay planks for workers to walk on and fix guard rails and safety netting. Scaffolders also dismantle scaffolding when a project is complete and create different kinds of platforms from more simple scaffolding through to more complex structures such as cantilever drops, temporary roofs and suspended scaffolding.
