What Is Social Care?

Social care work is a relationship-based approach to the purposeful planning and provision of care, protection, psychosocial support and advocacy in partnership with vulnerable individuals and groups who experience disadvantage, marginalisation or special needs.

What Will I Learn?

It all depends on which course you choose. However, you can expect to learn the knowledge and skills required to work in social care. In particular, you will learn about the key areas of social care and the challenges and issues relating to disabilities, aging care, mental health and other marginalised or vulnerable groups in society.

Students will develop their skills in a number of areas, including communication and responding to challenging behaviour. In the area of practice, students will develop their personal and professional boundaries and develop their accountability and autonomy as a social care worker.

Some courses may cover more than is listed here, however, these are the basic things you can expect to learn about in your social care course. If you would like an exact list of the modules you will be studying, do not hesitate to get in touch with your course provider for more information.
