The Health Benefits of Zumba Fitness

Zumba fitness has many health benefits for the people who do it. Some of them include, promoting heart health, weight loss, building and toning the muscles, improving coordination and flexibility as well as being an incredible stress reliever.

A Brief History of Zumba Fitness

Zumba was first created by the fitness instructor and choreographer Alberto Beto Perez in the mid 1990s. The official Zumba website says that it was created as a result of a happy accident. He was on his way to teach an aerobics class when suddenly, he realised that he had forgotten his music. He did not have time to go back and get it. So, he improvised by using the salsa and merengue tapes he had on him.

Raher than strictly rep counting, he ended up improvising a class that was the perfect mix of both aerobics and dance that kept the students moving and having fun. In 2001, he began teaching this hybrid aerobics/dance in Miami and through another happy ancient, he got in touch with two other Albertos. They were Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion.

Together, they called this new style ‘Zumba’, a word that does not have any particular specific meaning but has become synonymous with this great combination of fun and fitness and brought it to fitness centres all across the globe. Zumba was designed to be a low-impact, intense and efficient calorie-burning workout. One that is suitable and adaptable for all ages, body types and fitness levels.
